Collection
Documents, photos, objects and books of historical interest about the village and residents of Morton are kept in the History Collection. The foundation of the collection was the generous donation of all items held by the Morton Historical Society in 1998.
The Local History Collection is available for use during regular library hours at the Morton Public Library.

Morton: a Pictorial History

Morton History Project
The Morton History Project launched in 2018 to document people and places from Morton's history. Made possible by a grant from the Morton Community Foundation, the Morton Chamber of Commerce collected oral and written histories of Morton community members to catalog and share.
Local History E-Books
Acadia Publishing titles, which focus on the history of Illinois towns and significant events in the state’s past, are available for simultaneous use. They can be checked out by anyone in Illinois, no library card or login is required. View the collection here.
Ancestry Information
The Library subscribes to both Heritage Quest and Ancestry Library Edition in order to provide patrons access to genealogy resources. Both require a Morton Library Card to use.
Obituary Index
The Library maintains an obituary index, which can be searched below. The current index is based on obituaries of Morton residents that appeared in the Morton Times-News from 1909-2018 and in the Morton Courier from 2019-2021. The obituary index will be periodically updated to include obituaries from additional years.
Newspapers on Microfilm
Our microfilm reader is "view only" and cannot make copies. Copies of these newspapers for the years 1909 - 2013 have been digitized and are available online from home and at the library.
