Preschool Pathway

During the past five years the library has worked to grow our preschool pathway from our beloved Friday Toddler Time sessions to a regular schedule of developmentally appropriate storytimes to meet the needs of our earliest learners.

A few years ago we renamed Toddler Time to Friday Friends to better encapsulate this all ages storytime that usually sees older siblings attending on school holidays and summer breaks. This storytime features a monthly theme and songs, shakers and stories with two sessions on Fridays at 9:30 and 10:30 am. It’s held in Hannah’s Reading Garden from May through September and inside the rest of the year.

On the first and third Mondays we partner with Communication Junction to offer Sign & Sing with stories, movement, rhymes and bubbles, where an instructor will teach families 2-5 signs to take home and practice with their little ones.

Baby Bounce is offered on the first and third Tuesdays at 10:15 am in short storytime with songs and rhymes that provides the opportunity to social with with others caring for little ones.

Wiggles & Giggles is on the second and Fourth Mondays at 10:15 and is aimed at ages 1 to 3 years and is an active storytimes designed for new walkers, movers and shakers to learn new songs and fun stories.

Preschool Pals debuted this fall and is a gentle introduction to a class setting on Tuesdays at 9:30 am for ages 2.5 to 5 years old. It includes books, music and a simple craft focusing on one topic each week.

Early Explorers is for ages 3-5 years old held on Wednesdays mornings. Curious kids can explore STEAM topics with books, activities and crafts in themed units.

We also have our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program which promotes reading aloud to young children. Participants earn a prize for every 100 books read, including re-reads. You can register at the Info Desk.

Finally, stay up to date with all our programming for ages 0 to 5 with Talk, Sing, Read, Write Play our monthly e-newsletter focused on early literacy features a look at the storytime schedule for the month ahead, new books for preschoolers, and an early literacy tip. Sign up here.
